SCOPE OF AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING IN INDIA

A few people have a misconception about aeronautical engineering. "Will i be able to fly an airplane one day?" will be the first thing a student who is planning to join a UG course thinks. He/she will ask someone about the doubt and the person explains that there are not many opportunities because there are a lot of pilots these days. Well the truth is that you become an aeronautical engineer after the course and not a pilot. Well to be a pilot you should join a flying/aviation center and get a flying license (can do after school).

A lot of companies hire aeronautical engineers to do the following work :
  • For the construction of aircrafts
  • For the testing purposes such as efficiency testing, flight testing etc
  • For the design purposes such as airframe design, engine design etc
  • For the maintenance of aircrafts
  • For the functioning of aircrafts
  • For the manufacturing of aircrafts
  • For investigation purposes such as airplane crashes, impact on environment etc
  • AS flight controllers or air traffic controllers.
The companies which hire aeronautical engineers are commercial aviation companies, space research agencies, civil aviation, research centers (industrial, government and academic). Few of the top companies which employ aeronautical engineers are
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL)
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
  • Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)
  •  National Aeronautical Lab (NAL)
  • Airline companies such as Indian Airlines, Spicejet etc
The job of an aeronautical engineer is a very prestigious one and the pay is very good. It should be every engineers dream to get into NASA. A lot of Indian aeronautical engineers has accomplished their dream of getting into NASA. Try to join the top Indian colleges if possible. IISc and few IIT's have aeronautical engineering. Other colleges (not all) which offer aeronautical engineering are GATE, Hindustan college of engineering, Punjab engineering college, S.C Moitra Air Technical Training Institute, IIST (trivandram), BIT (mesra) etc. There are a lot of colleges in Tamil Nadu. You can also go for higher studies to get more knowledge and to increase your pay and chances of getting into top companies of the world. You can also go for a flying course after aeronautical engineering to be a pilot. You can also do post graduation cheaply but with more value.
